Arthur Season 20

Post by dm7111722 on Wed Oct 21, 2015 12:00 pm

This has been discussed in the Slums, but what are your thoughts about Arthur's new season 20 under Oasis Animation?

For one, I'm very glad that flash animation won't be used this season, so i'm curious about what Ladonna will look like with the new animation

Go to the Oasis Animation page. They have a small preview of an Arthur episode.

I have seen that they said it was traditional animation. But that doesn't nessicarly mean it's for sure gonna be digital ink and paint animation (it's digitally colored traditional animation.)

Well this animation seems to allow the character to portray better expressions than the flash animation

It looks like all their other shows are Flash due to the way they move like jello?

I was kind of thinking, now that 9 Story isn't doing Arthur anymore, that maybe Arthur would go back to the way it was before Season 16, and I'll be honest, though I do like the Season 16-19 look and took it in stride, Arthur was better during the first 15 seasons.

Well, I don't know what they're going to do, although during Season 4 of Johnny Bravo, and I only saw one or two episodes from that season, it went back to the way it was during Season 1, which I liked better, I didn't really like the Season 2 design. But I cannot say if they're going to go back to doing the Season 6-15 design since I don't know.

Let's hope that they don't make Arthur, the series, more putrid than Season 16-19.

Maybe I will check out the Oasis Animation preview, maybe.

I really enjoyed The Last Tough Customer, Brain Freeze and Whip Mix Blend. I like how the Tough Customers are getting more attention now and I am glad that Rattles finally got his own episode!

They really screwed up the latest episodes in my opinion though. I liked the one with Rattle and his potential step siblings, but so many mistakes/dumb things in the Hurricane episode, I couldn't even watch most of the new ones because of a PBS glitch.

I hope that with a revert in animation, they revert back to how they wrote episodes. Kidonia and All Thumbs was a newer season right? 16/17? If so, I truly despised those episodes. Go back to fun episodes like the one with Sue Ellen's Diary, or the Kosher episode.

You know, there should be a football episode. Like, Elwood City should have an NFL team. That would be something I'd like to see in the new season.
Also, maybe they should finally go from 3rd to 4th grade.

PS: Cool

Oh yeah, I remember PBS glitches happening a lot back then. One time, they experienced techinical difficulties for a whole month! DirectTV played the same bluegrass song for a whole month! It was really relaxing though.

You should write to WGBH or to Oasis Animation and tell them your ideas and see if they will include it. Though I'm not a football fan, that does sound like a good idea, Elwood City having a NFL team. An NFL team.

I wrote a letter to Oasis Animation Thursday and I also emailed them a copy of my letter and saved it for my records. And this morning I got a reply from, possibly the website owner and this is what she said:

"Hi William

Thank you very much for your e-mail and for your interest in the Arthur Series!

We will send your request to WGBH, who are the Producers of the Series, and they will see if they can include your request.

Very best,

Dianne"

So they got my email and responded yay me! But I also sent them a snail mail and I did let them know about it. I might share my email with you but I need to figure out how to do it as it has images, and if I do, please only read it if you're interested.

Getting back on subject, I did like episodes like Based on a True Story, Night of the Tibble, The Last Tough Customer, Opposites Distract (in that episode, Arthur and Buster realize that spending extended times with each other isn't as cracked up as it ought to be despite their being best friends and it goes to show that all that glitters isn't gold. And I know this from personal experience,) and I too liked Whip, Mix, Blend, was nice to have an episode that focused more on Rattles than anyone else. I'd say there should be an episode that focuses on Slink, but there's that episode where he and Toby dare Buster to do a lot of stupid stuff (I forget the title since there are two Dare episodes) And there are lots of episodes that revolve around Binky and some that are about Molly.

All THumbs and Kidonia were in Season 17. I only watched Kidonia once and I'm not sure that episode is for me. I feel the urge to watch it again and I might but it's an episode that strikes me as "Rebellion Against Authority" and I've had this problem myself and I'm trying to work on my respect for authority. Maybe that episode teaches a lesson but if the viewer is not careful, it can encourage him, no matter how old, whether kid, teen, or even adult, it can encourage rebellion and disrespect for authority, and that's why I don't watch it, that and the anger it may have caused me. But I don't mind All Thumbs! Silly episode!

All we can do is wait and see.

How about The Elwood Lumberjacks? They could be a parody of the Pittsburgh Steelers?

And I would love for them to do an episode on Slink. He's one of the 4 Main Tough Customers. If Rattles could get one, then Slink should!

It be nice if they did an episode on Slink. I thought they already did in the episode "Buster and the DareDevils." But I guess that doesn't count does it?

I'm glad they included Slink in the Tough Customers, I like him better than that Brown male dog, I'm talking about this guy:

I wish I knew his name (so unless and until I learn his real name, I'm calling him "Dribble." And that's how I'll call him in my fanfics and fanart until I find out what his real name is, if I ever do.)

I would like for him and Kiefer the cat to come back.

I know he did in "Based on a True Story" but I'd like to see him and Dribble back in the Tough Customer clique, along with Rattles. They should also put this girl back in:

I would like an episode about Alex. Or better, a few episodes about Alex, one that revolves around him, one where Arthur hangs out with him, one where Buster hangs out with him, and or an episode where both Arthur and Buster hang out with him.

And of course more Carl episodes or episodes with Carl.

I'd also like to see this character again: Would also like to know his name and to see him meet Arthur.

Did anyone else notice him? He was in the beginning of the episode "The Perfect Game," before the Title Card.

I was so interested in this character I even did fanart of him which will be posted on this forum:
This however is just a made-over  or modified Arthur Read made to look like him. But  the next picture I did is a little more official and more original than what I did previously.

One more character I'm really interested in is I'd like to know what he's like and what his name is. To me he's kind of like Buster and Alex, Buster because of what he's wearing and Alex because of his complexion.

Oh yeah! I remember seeing your fanart of that white Arthur look-alike! If they ever were put Arthur in Super Smash Bros. (he will never be in), I could see them using this as one of his alternate colors.

Yeah, I think I see what you mean.

You're not by any chance refering to Super Mario Bros for Nintendo are you? The one where Mario is wearing brown and red and Luigi is wearing green and white (and then when they both have the fire flower power their red and white.) Also one of my most favorite video games ever.

Now I almost think there should be fan art of Arthur and his look alike, that's a great idea!

Well actually I think I already had the idea of doing artwork of the two in the same picture but the idea of the two like Nintendo characters, that is a good idea. But Arthur could be Mario and his Look-Alike can be Luigi.

There's another game almost similar to that called Gyromite. The charaters look the same but one wears brown and the other wears white.

No no, Super SMASH Bros. It's a fighting game featuring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Wario, Bowser Jr., Rosalina, Dr. Mario and other characters from different Nintendo games. The object of the game is to make the other players fall off the stage or fly off the screen. The more you hit your opponent, the farther you fly. You want to keep your percentage as low as possible in the game.

This is how to play (this is Melee btw, not the new Wii U/3DS one)

Let me nip this right here: Kidonia was not a rebellion.

It was a Utopia. Maybe even a confederacy, which isn't a rebellion.
Let me explain:
When the original 13 colonies departed from England, they succeeded from the King and everything British. They were their own country/government. They didn't rise up and take arms against Britain, that came when the King said "Hey, tax these people" and decided to put the squeeze on the colonies. When the 13 decided to officially declare independence(which was the point all along), England sent in the troops, and the Revolutionary War started. Yet, that again wasn't a rebellion because at this point, America either was, or was in the process of becoming, a government of it's own.

To bring this to Elwood: The gang succeeded from the Adults which ran Elwood City, and their lives. Now, in the mind of an eight year old, chores can become overbearing, homework can swamp you, and the pressure of being a kid in general can make you feel like "forget it".

So, a Utopia made the most sense. It would be a peaceful place for kids to feel free. Free of the burdens of home life(again: chores, homework, etc.).
But there was one problem: No rules.

And this, to me, was the point of the episode, Utopias don't work.
With no rules in place, there's no order, and there's no sense of conflict resolution.
So if I see someone streaking, I can't complain against them, there's (a) no one to complain to, and (b) no laws means nothing's illegal.

Now why did I hate the episode? They gave up way too pathetically easy.
It was such a train wreck. "I don't like the currency", "Buster's not cleaning up his mess", it was a dumb idea from the start, and yet Brain, the smart one, participated anyway. If you wanted a place where kids could be free, set in place a few simple rules(and DON'T call it a Utopia): Clean up your mess, Be nice to everyone, *third, fourth, fifth things*. Nothing too strenuous(if that's the goal), and still, everyone will be happy, and can have fun. And if you truly want this dream, don't give up after a few hours. Stick with it, suffer if you have to, the colonies did it. And in the end, it would have been worth it.

Now, I see the benefit of rules, chores, jobs, and etc., but remember, to an eight year old, this stuff seems to get in the way. And when it comes down to it, freedom is important, but without balance, problems arise.

My point is, Kidonia isn't a rebellion. It was an attempt at a society. It failed. And it failed primarily, because of the lack of cooperation, and the speed in which it was dropped.

Of course, tis only a show...

I hated All Thumbs because it preached a terrible message: Sucking your thumb is for babies, you're eight, grow up.

And I hate that message because it's so judgmental. A reason why youth are so terrible is because they're encouraged to grow up at younger ages. Teen Pregnancy, for example, is a direct consequence of teens growing up too fast. Back in the day, when you were ten, you could play with a toy truck. Now, that's for five-year olds, here's a tablet.

And in a society where it's so "ignorant" to judge because of a person's habits, this message is very distasteful, and hypocritical.

I used to suck my thumb a lot. I still do it when I sleep, because it's comfortable that way. I stopped doing it "full time" when I was what, 12? 13?
When I saw this episode I was almost put off of Arthur altogether. It was literally saying, "sucking your thumb is for babies, you should feel bad for it."
And now hey, sucking your thumb jacks your teeth. We're not stupid. But think of it like smoking, but less harmful, and without all the sickness and cancer.
It's a crutch for some, and I've seen grown people sucking their thumb. I've seen at least two drivers sucking their thumb while driving!
And yet, here's an episode shaming people for it. Even the "From Us Kids" segment was dedicated to the purpose of saying "Sucking your thumb is sinful".
I've talked to a member of the Arthur fandom of Fanfiction.net, and she stopped when she was 18, and she agreed with me, this episode shared a bad message.

My thing is, don't brow beat people. Sure, sucking your thumb may cause your teeth to do things, but other than that, why is it so wrong? Why is it so "Childish", "immature", sinful?
And yet, people are trashed out when they speak out against abortion, pornography, or whatever else.

I'll finish this later.

I used to have a bad habit of picking my nose and scratching my head. It was just a bad habit I had my entire life.

Sucking your thumb is childish but there tons of worse things out there like abortion, pornography, etc.

I wish I could speak out against Adult Swin's recent animes like Kill la Kill, Akame ga Kill, etc. but they are all gonna say "I just want something to get offended by."

I agree completely.
Those two episodes just rubbed me entirely the wrong way.

But at any rate, I do hope that they come up with some better storylines with the new season.

I hope the gang finally goes 4th, maybe a new teacher or something.

I saw "The Last Day" episode and it's been implied that Mr. Ratburn will be their 4th Grade Teacher next year.

Catching up:

Sorry, Super Smash Brothers is not in my department. Too violent for me. I mean I like the combination of Nintendo characters but that's not for me.

@TUC: Well, I see your point and kind of agree with you on the 13 colonies thing. Still, what Arthur and the kids did were wrong, if I did that my parents would have beat my behind or whatever not-so-pleasant thing, or maybe would even kicked me out of the house and who knows if they'd let me come back or not.

I'll just say again the episode for me and leave it there.

@ Anyone reading this: You think sucking your thumb is disgusting and a bad habit? What I did was way worse, I used to suck my thumb and my index and middle fingers. My mother let me get away with it (not that she's a bad mother) but my stepfather and later other people didn't approve of it. But I liked sucking my fingers though it got me in trouble. I even liked doing it in bed. But I finally decided to give it up at 10 going on 11 years old and I don't regret it.

Now thumb sucking and driving? That's a new one to me. Maybe it's not as dumb as drinking and driving but isn't that as dumb as texting and driving, or just about? Sure your eyes may still be on the road and you may not be inebriated but that could still cause a car accident. Maybe not as much as texting and driving, using a cell phone and driving, or worse of all, drinking and driving.

Don't Suck and Drive! But who's gonna listen to that?

And I agree there are worse things than thumb sucking but I won't list any to keep this site clean.

//I saw "The Last Day" episode and it's been implied that Mr. Ratburn will be their 4th Grade Teacher next year.//

What? Didn't Arthur and his friends have enough of Mr. Ratburn? (I didn't see the episode and am not going to right now so I don't really know). Well, maybe the show would stay watchable if Ratburn was still the teacher but I think they should have a new teacher. And one that doesn't give homework in excess but like that'll happen. I mean I like Mr. Ratburn but I think he goes overboard with the homework thing and I wouldn't have survived his class, I probably would have cried.

Okay fire away.

So what I'm understanding is: You think running away from home is a bad thing. Yet, most times(9/10) kids have valid reasons for leaving home. Abuse for the most part. You yourself said that if you did what Arthur did you'd either be beaten or kicked out, which to be honest, reflects more on your parents than it does you. (PS: I'm not ragging on your parents or anything, just my opinion)

Now, I will grant you that Arthur and Co. left for extremely petty reasons, that's not to say that children should never run away.

Is it safe? No. Should most children leave home? Not necessarily. However, if a child is slaved day after day, and abused in more ways than one, I happen to think they deserve to ditch that house and leave it to burn.

But, this is leaving the whole point of the discussion.
We both hate the episode, but for completely different reasons. It's just a mere difference in viewpoint.

Thumb sucking and driving is no where near as distracting as drinking(which affects motor skills) or texting (which diverts attention), so while it's not ideal, it's definitely not up there with drinking, texting, reaching in your bag, shaving, or eating while driving.

It's more like smoking and driving, but smoking's another bag of shells.

I swear, if Ratman is their teacher next (school) year I will do a serious facepalm. A Picard level facepalm.
It would be lazy, unoriginal, and a huge rip-off all around.
